The Adventure genre is one that progressed from its literary origins to a more visual approach. The text-based Interactive Fiction sub-genre was championed by Infocom, Level 9 and Magnetic Scrolls and included classics such as Sorcerer, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Time and Magik trilogy and Guild of Thieves.
Although a number of Interactive Fiction games would include pictures to accompany the text it was the point and click sub-genre which would produce a string of graphical masterpieces. Games such as The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Beneath a Steel Sky, Operation Stealth and Cruise For a Corpse take gamers on adventures in a wide variety of settings.
