TRIVIA: According to main coder Richard Costello, the Amiga conversion of GOLDEN AXE is a cross between the Sega Mega Drive conversion and the coin-op. The Amiga conversion shares the coin-op's sprite designs, but doesn't have as many colours. Additionally, it has two 16-colour palettes for the backdrops and 600 sprite animations. The 68000 CPU and blitter work overtime to produce a conversion that runs within a frame (i.e. 960 'blits' are performed every 1/50th of a second), which led main coder Richard Costello to declare prior to GOLDEN AXE's release in 1990 that it stretched the boundaries of Amiga games. Interestingly, graphics for the Amiga conversion utilise the PC1 format native to the Atari ST graphics package DEGAS. [Source: ACE #39 preview, Dec 90, pp30-31]
